Public Housing - Affordable Housing for the Elderly & Disabled

HRA is committed to developing affordable and accessible housing options to qualified elderly and/or disabled residents of Franklin County. Housing is reserved for low income individuals and preference is given to residents of the town in which the housing facility is located.

The HRA owns and/or manages 117 units of Chapter 667 housing in Bernardston, Gill, Northfield, Shelburne Falls and Turners Falls. HRA screens applicants, manages and maintains the facilities, and assists in coordinating community supports for tenants.


Eligibility & Income Guidelines

HRA complies with program and equal housing guidelines when processing applications for public housing. As part of the application process, applicants must authorize HRA to conduct background checks on criminal history and past rental history.

Applicants are screened for eligibility according to the relevant guidelines for income standards. To be eligible a household cannot exceed the income limits for Massachusetts Chapter 667 & 705 housing.

Typical Property Features

Although each property differs, each have common features such as: on-site laundry, parking and community room facilities. Each is located in a down-town area within close proximity to stores, transportation, churches, and public facilities. A 24-hour emergency on-call property management and maintenance service number is also available.
