Single Room Occupancy & Sober Housing

HRA is committed to providing housing options to special need residents of Franklin County and the North Quabbin Region. HRA manages the Moltenbrey single-room occupancy (SRO) program to offer safe, affordable, housing to people who want to live in a sober environment.

HRA administers the program in compliance with applicable state and federal guidelines.

Single Room Occupancy Programs

Moltenbrey SRO Sober Housing Program - Working with a private owner, the Franklin Medical Center, the State Department of Public Health, the Town of Montague, the Executive Office of Communities and Development, and the Massachusetts Housing Partnership, in five months, HRA transformed a derelict, burned-out, downtown boarding house into a quality affordable staffed, drug and alcohol-free facility.

Building Renovation Project Read About the Renovations

Unfortunately, over the years the ownership and management of the Moltenbrey changed several times. And the building fell into serious disrepair. This property was recently acquired by a non profit (Rural Development Incorporated - RDI) and the building is slated for comprehensive renovations in 2004. Upon completion of the renovation, the enhanced SRO units will be managed by the HRA and will continue to provide alcohol and substance-free, affordable housing units for eligible individuals.
