Rental Assistance Services
| HRA administers a variety
of housing assistance programs that enable residents
to live affordably in safe, decent rental housing
in Franklin County and the North Quabbin Region. Our
diverse programs have been developed to meet the needs
of the elderly, individuals, single parents, and families.
HRA operates these programs with funds secured primarily
through the federal department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) and the state Department of Housing
and Community Development (DHCD). |

Rental Assistance Vouchers & Certificates |
|
HRA administers the Section 8 federally funded Housing
Choice Voucher Program to assist extremely low and very
low-income families, elderly, and disabled residents. Preference
is given to those applicants who live and or work in the
Town of Amherst and all towns of Franklin County with the
exception of Greenfield.
| Section 8
Family Self Sufficiency Program |
|
The Section 8 Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is
designed to promote economic independence and self-sufficiency
among participating families. Qualifying families receive
job training, educational services, home ownership, and
other assistance over a contract period of five years. HRA
shares an FSS Coordinator with the Greenfield Housing Authority.
The Section 8 home ownership program is funded by the United
States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
as part of its Section 8 housing assistance program. This
Home ownership Program allows families who are receiving
Section 8 rental assistance to use that assistance to help
pay the mortgage on a home they buy.
