Economic Development - Community Development Block Grants

HRA helps Franklin County municipalities secure Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for economic development projects. Economic development projects cover numerous types of improvement activities ranging from planning to construction projects that revitalize and upgrade commercial buildings in Franklin County Massachusetts. HRA works with many capable partners including the Franklin County Community Development Corporation.

All applications for project funding support must benefit the low to moderate-income residents or aid in the elimination or prevention of slums and blighted conditions in your town.

Examples of economic development projects that can be assisted with CDBG funds include but are not limited to:

• Reconstruction and rehabilitation of commercial buildings
• Projects directed to the removal architectural barriers for commercial buildings
• Small business & microenterprise technical assistance
• Sign and facade renovation assistance
• Code enforcement in deteriorated ares
• See list of projects completed within Franklin County & the North Quabbin region

HRA's Community Development department will assist your community to develop and submit an application for MCDBG/CDF funds.

Applications are Processed Yearly: In January of each year, HRA sends out reminder letters to Franklin County municipalities. The letter outlines the process and deadlines for requesting assistance. Interested communities request HRA's assistance in developing an application by sending a written response by the deadline cited in the reminder letter.
